Whimsical Country Bear Holiday Water Color Paintings

The talent and diversity of the Disney Hipster Melange never ceases to amaze me. And our Twitter friend Lauren (@LeRidiculous) might be among the most amazing.  Here are a series of whimsical water color painting depicting none other than Frontierland's own Country Bears!  Not only that…but they each represent a different holiday. THIS IS AMAZING.

Epcot: Surprise Priorities

On a recent episode of The Disney Hipster Podcast  one of our "hypothetical questions" involved what we would each do if we had 24 hours at Disney World.  As we were disembarking from the Disney Magic and driving toward Walt Disney World we realized that this hypothetical question was basically (almost) going to be a reality.  Sure, we hadn't planned on going to the parks…but at the last minute an amazing cast member friend was able to get us in.  Thus…we had a VERY limited time to enjoy our favorite place in the world.  About four hours in Epcot...

Because we weren't able to "rope drop"  we had to be very picky about the attractions we would enjoy.  Honestly, what we ended up doing was a little surprising to both of us.

Review: Promenade Lounge On The Disney Magic

You knew drinking was a big part of cruising…right?  Going into our first Disney Cruise, I did have that assumption.  However, I didn't realize HOW EASILY ACCESSIBLE drinks were on the ship! Besides the many bars/lounges/counters in which you can purchase your libations there are also handy cocktail waiters roaming the boat.  Their sole job is to entice you with delicious drinks.  This is my kind of vacation.
One of the more out of the way bars on the ship is the Promenade Lounge.

This space, located on Deck three of both The Magic and The Wonder is very understated.  Because of the open wall layout, which acts as a hallway between the atrium and Carioca's , its pretty hard to call this space "cozy."  But the chairs are super comfortable…and check out the view. Sigh.

View from the Promenade Lounge…I want to be here every day.

Animal Kingdom Artifact: Some New Shots From The Arusha Rock Overlook

We spend the last four or five hours of each Disney World vacation relaxing at our favorite resort…Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Even though our most recent trip was only a few short days, I insisted on upholding the tradition.  I tend to spend a large portion of this time swimming, drinking, and taking a lot of photos. (and crying…don't forget crying.)
One of the best places to take photos is the Arusha Rock Overlook… which we wrote about here and here.   I snapped quite a few pictures on this last trip.  Here are a few.

I thought it was weird that the fire was burning in the middle of the day...

Still perplexed by the new "little fire" in this corner. Anyone know
what this is used for?

Storyboards from Goofy's The Olympic Champ

With everyone excited about (or apathetic about?) the winter Olympics I thought I'd pull these nuggets from the Story volume of the Disney Animation Archive Series.  The storyboards show our favorite Goof getting into his regular clumsy antics, though as always he starts out so elegant!
I've included the original 1942 short as well…because it is much more entertaining than the real Olympics.

Whimsical Merchandise Toppers At Animal Kingdom's Creature Comforts

Even though I had only a few precious hours at Disney's Animal Kingdom, the impending closure of Creature Comforts  early next year prompted me to visit.  This is a pretty inconspicuous store, and gets lost in the shuffle of fabulous stores/buildings on Discovery Island.   And to be perfectly honest, I don't think I've ever set foot in here!

The interior of Creature Comforts is equally as vivid as its neighbor shops…plus it showcases these AMAZING merchandise toppers!

Sunday Quickie: Firerock Geyser May Erupt At Any Time...

One of the perks of actually staying at Wilderness Lodge (as opposed to just stopping in for food…) was the opportunity to stake out a spot near Firerock Geyser and await eruption.  Up until this point I'd never actually witnessed this fun feat of imagineering, I knew it was now or never.

Disney Cult Food Valentines!

Happy Valentines Day readers!  You remember that time New Jersey got so much snow that I basically didn't leave my house at all for a month?  Well…maybe not a month, but yesterday at least.  I found a lot of time to prepare these ridiculous Valentines featuring not only your favorite Disney Hipsters…but also some of our favorite Disney World cult foods...

Me and my true love…school bread.

Disney Hipster Jamie and Her Blue Mints...

Adam with a PB&J milkshake from 50's Primetime Cafe...

Me again, cheating on School Bread with Zebra Domes.
Trust me, its hard not to make a packing fudge joke. But Keith DOES kind of
look like a hot santa claus.

So there you are! My Valentines day treat for our faithful followers.  I love all you guys and hope you eat your favorite Disney cult food soon! (and if not, at least an entire box of chocolates…)

Norwegian Cast Member Videos / Mystery Loop

UPDATE: The CM who made these videos is pretty legit.  I'm going to bet that the loop is real…though not sure about the order or even if it comes from multiple loops throughout the pavilion.  You can visit his awesome site here.   Also, he apparently still works at Epcot.
---
Hey guys.  Dedicated readers probably notice that this blog entry is a little out of the ordinary.  First, its on a Thursday…second, I'm writing it around 12:30 in the afternoon.  You see, I'm snowed in.  Like, completely 100% no chance of getting out of our house snowed in.
To stave off boredom (pun intended) I've been cataloguing my collection of Disney World background music loops.  Over the last year or so simple searches on youtube of Epcot Norway Music Loop always leads to the same few totally incomplete/wrong loops.  But also to this little nugget of a video...

The music definitely sounds right, and the person who uploaded clearly was a cast member at the pavilion as recently as 2013.  My question for you guys…Is this the the background music loop currently played at the Norway pavilion in Epcot?  I know this is amateur hour, but as the Dibster is quick to point out the BGM in this pavilion is pretty hard to hear between all the superfluous noise wafting about.  So please, if anyone can confirm or deny with 100% confidence, I would be very happy.

Also, enjoy this video from the same former CM touring the VIP lounge above the pavilion, I thought it was pretty cool.

Dinner at Carioca's On The Disney Magic

Fresh off of our first ever Disney cruise aboard The Magic, I wanted to jump right into the meal that was most perplexing.  So bare with me if this comes off a little, ug…not sweet.
Carioca's is one of three main dining rooms included in The Magic's regular dining rotation.  For those of you who have never sailed on a Disney Cruise before, the dining rotation involves you and your group being assigned to a different restaurant each night.  Along with you, your table mates, and server move along with you.  This is both an innovative and fun way to tackle the intrinsic dining problem that most cruise lines face. (aka: how to feed thousands of people like they're cattle…)

Of the three main dining rooms on board Carioca's went through the biggest overhaul during The Magic's long "re-imagineering" last year.  Not only was the theming and food different, but it also went from being called Parrot Cay.
Having a restaurant named after one of my favorite Disney characters (Jose Carioca of Three Caballeros fame) was enough to get me excited.  And the retheming of the interior is actually really gorgeous...

Awesome New Tiki Cups At Sunshine Tree!

I stop by the Sunshine Tree Terrace in the Magic Kingdom a few times each Disney World vacation…and this super mini trip was no exception!  Though normally I would only imbibe in a classic citrus swirl, this time something relatively new caught my eye.

NO! Not the Pina Colada slush! (though, Adam would like to point out how much he enjoyed the drink…)  I was more interested in the souvenir tiki cup!  This mug is currently only available at Sunshine Tree, and possibly at a location in Disneyland as well.

Sunday Quickie: Hipsters Check In At Wilderness Lodge

As most of you know, the inevitable finally happened.  After some tactful convincing by Adam, we finally booked a short stay at a resort that WASNT Animal Kingdom Lodge.  Though I was skeptical of any resort that isn't "my resort," this was the most promising on WDW property.  And yes, I did enjoy it quite a bit…
Here are a few shots that I took just before and during check in at Wilderness Lodge

Quick Thoughts On Our First Disney Cruise...

So, I'm not in the mood to fully blog quite yet.  After a whirlwind trip like this one I need to decompress a little, and mentally organize my thoughts and feelings. (not to mention the 1,200 photos…)
I can tell you up front that we enjoyed our cruise quite a bit.  Though the experience isn't what I was expecting, it did have the same level of Disney magic that I've come to expect from the parks.  A good way to judge if I'm having a good time is whether I start crying from happiness…and that happened a few times.  Also, we're already talking about booking our next cruise…so that speaks volumes.
Castaway Cay exceeded every possible expectation.  This island is gorgeous, and has phenomenal amenities. We really enjoyed our day on the island, especially riding our bikes and collecting seashells. There will be plenty of posts about this in the future…but I will probably drag them out a little bit over time.
Another interesting series of posts will be about the veggie food options on The Magic.  While a lot of the food was super delicious, we also had a few disappointing meals…and you know I can't wait to share my feelings about that. :)
So in lieu of a more in depth post now, I thought I would share a few of my favorite photos from the cruise…

You guys!!! They still have Nescafe on the cruise!!!

The Family That School-Breads Together...

This past May, my entire family was together for the first time since Adam and I were married… in Boston over three years before.  Its always fun to catch up with my siblings, and get to know their awesome kids. (Adam and I have eight nieces and nephews…yikes.)  To celebrate our fun time together, we imbibed in beer, and school bread.  My family is super not-classy…thus, one school bread was to be had by one and all…

Me and my siblings…

Lets Ride Some Disney World Spinners!

So, its been almost a year since I last released an original song about Disney World…but guess what!?! Under the cover of darkness I managed to throw one together!  This one celebrates those underrated off the shelf attractions that many despise….the humble spinner.

If you made it through to the end of the video…you might have caught the release date for my LONG AWAITED ALBUM ABOUT DISNEY WORLD…that I've been hinting at for almost two years.   So yeah, June 3rd all of my songs will be available on iTunes…more info to come.

Huge thanks to the amazing Kim Taylor for spending her time off in the Magic Kingdom gathering videos for this video. She seriously is such an asset to Disney Hipster Blog, and we love her. :)

If you love the song/video please feel free to share via social media!  We would really appreciate it.
