I stop by the Sunshine Tree Terrace in the Magic Kingdom a few times each Disney World vacation…and this super mini trip was no exception! Though normally I would only imbibe in a classic citrus swirl, this time something relatively new caught my eye.
NO! Not the Pina Colada slush! (though, Adam would like to point out how much he enjoyed the drink…) I was more interested in the souvenir tiki cup! This mug is currently only available at Sunshine Tree, and possibly at a location in Disneyland as well.
Sold alongside more flimsy and generic souvenir mugs, this one is actually pretty awesome by comparison. Though it too is made of plastic, it is more of a firm plastic, as opposed to the Little Orange Bird sippy cup, which is pretty soft.
The fabulous thing is that it features an actual tiki from inside the Enchanted Tiki Room! It would have been pretty easy to generalize the design, but luckily some effort was actually put into this. The image isn't simply printed onto plastic either. The tikis are textures and raised…which you rarely see in these types of cups.
Isn't it a beautiful design? I know its silly to obsess over such an insignificant memento…but when the merchandise team gets something right I need to applaud them. We loved this so much that we actually bought two. (heck, I'm not sharing with Adam!) I hope that this is a sign of things to come from park merchandise! Truly good design.
