Design Lesson: Tune-In Lounge

One of the best places to grab a drink or quick lunch at Disney Hollywood Studios is the wonderful Tune-In Lounge located in the 50's Prime Time Cafe.  While used primarily as the waiting room/check in area of the main restaurant, I'd venture to say that I actually prefer this spot over the actual table service.
This wonderland of kitschy delight is full of winks and nods toward a simpler time.  Though it is somewhat exaggerated, some might argue that this is an accurate depiction of a 1950's living room.  If this is the case, I'll take it!

This is indeed a bar, not your grandmothers living room...

Dad's Liquor Cabinet... we enjoy the PB&J milkshake.

Knick knacks abound in this hipster heaven!  Wonderful ceramic figures, including slightly offensive/ awesome ones make this a terrific place to examine while you enjoy the air conditioning.  There is plenty of pastel goodness, paramount of  the optimism felt in the country after WWII.  Oh, and televisions everywhere... of course.

If you ever make the mistake of going to Hollywood Studios fear not! Sure the attractions are few and far between...but this is a beautiful addition to the canon of well designed bars in Disney World!  Enjoy a cocktail and onion rings while taking in your surroundings.

  1. "If you ever make the mistake of going to Hollywood Studios..." Awwwwww, y'all. That's mean. Granted, it's my least favorite of the parks, because I have taste, naturally. But my husband has to ride Star Tours at least 5 times and the Brown Derby is one of our favorite restaurants in the World.

Now I want a PB&J milkshake, so thanks for that.

    1. We've yet to enjoy the Brown Derby, though we know we would love it! We'll get there soon enough. As far as the park goes, we rarely go. The good attractions are great, but there are so few, and the atmosphere of the park is a real turn off.
I would like to think that the studios will be getting a "DCA Style" overhaul pretty soon. That park is amazing.

  2. I just LOVE the Tune-in Lounge! We stopped in there during our honeymoon about 2 weeks ago... agreed that I like it better than actually eating at Prime Time.

As for the Brown Derby, we did Lunch with an Imagineer and the vegetarian options were absoblutely delicious.
